December Pier Update

Daily activity:


Thursday: water temp New Moon 69.3 N 10-20mph in the a.m. / 70.2 NNW 13-20mph in the p.m. The water was clean. The weather took a turn colder and the bite followed. There were only a couple of King Mackerel this morning. Tyler K. was lucky enough to deck this one.

 

 


Friday: water temp 68.9 N 8-13mph in the a.m. / 69.3 NNE 4-10mph in the p.m. The water was clean. Not much happened. There were a few Flounder, Needlefish, Remora, Lizard fish and a couple Hardtails. Cigar Minnows were available for live bait. 


Saturday: water temp 67.5 E 5-12mph in the a.m. / dropped to 67.1 at 10:30 / 68.5 ENE 4-9mph in the p.m. The water was clean. Slow, slow day. A Flounder and some trash fish in the morning. Ivan got a few Speedos and Cigar Minnows. Puffers, Needle fish, Remora and small Spade fish in the afternoon.


Sunday: water temp 66.2 ENE 5-10mph in the a.m. / 67.8 NNE 7-13mph in the p.m. The water was crystal clear.  Two small King Mackerel in the morning on jerk baits. There were Speedos and Cigar Minnows available for live bait. A couple of Flounder were caught.


Monday: water temp 67.1 NE 9-18mph in the p.m. / 68.2 NE 8-12mph in the p.m. The water was clean. There were 6 King Mackerel hooked and 4 decked in the morning. One Bonita was caught. Flounder season opened today, and they were caught all day. Only a third of the Flounder caught met the 14-inch minimum but several anglers were able to take fish home like the ones George and Brenda got. Hayden caught a small AJ. There were Cigar Minnows available for live bait.

 

 


 

 

 

Tuesday: water temp 66.7 N 6-9mph in the a.m. / 67.8 WNW 9-13mph in the p.m. There were strong thunderstorms during the pre-daylight hours with wind, but surprisingly the water was still clean. Flounder were caught most of the day but only a few were legal size. Lots of Needle fish were around. Cigar Minnows were available for live bait. A few schools of Ballyhoo swam through.


Wednesday: water temp  65.3 NNE 5-10mph in the a.m. / 66.6 N 6-10mph in the p.m.  The water was clean. Several Flounder were caught but only a few legal size. Cigar Minnows and Ballyhoo were available for live bait.


Red Tide status: Over the past week, the red tide organism, Karenia brevis, was observed in 19 samples from Florida’s Gulf Coast. Bloom concentrations (>100,000 cells/liter) were observed in 5 samples from Northwest Florida (Bay and Gulf counties).
